CIW Assessment Exam Overview
WOW Academy offers the CIW assessment exam which helps determine the current skill level of a student seeking CIW certification. Since students have various levels of self training, students are encouraged to take this assessment exam first to determine on which courses and topics you will want to focus on. Some advanced students may find they are ready to take the official CIW certification exam now. Once you have completed your training you are encouraged to practice with the CIW assessment exam to sharpen your webmaster skills until you feel you are ready to take the Official CIW exam. Each time you attempt the CIW assessment exam you will be presented with a new set of randomly selected questions similar to those found on the official CIW certification exam.

Taking the CIW Assessment Exam
The CIW assessment exam can be purchased via WOW Academy and then attempted online at any time.

CIW Assessment Exam Cost
The CIW assessment exam is $10 for students taking WOW Academy courses and $20 for those not taking WOW Academy courses.

CIW Assessment Exam Specifics
The CIW assessment exam contains 60 questions. Examinees have 90 minutes to complete the exam. Examinees scoring 63% have demonstrated that they have the skills needed to pass the official CIW certification exam. No certification is awarded for receiving a passing score on the CIW assessment exam.

  • Identify security issues related to Internet clients (e.g., Web browsers, e-mail, instant messaging) in the workplace, including: certificates, malware, illicit servers, viruses.
  • Use different types of Web search engines effectively.
  • Identify and use principles of Personal Information Management (PIM), including: common applications.
  • Efficiently transmit text and binary files using popular Internet services.
  • Identify security-related ethical and legal issues faced by IT professionals.
  • Relate project management concepts and terms to the IT profession.

  • Demonstrate knowledge required to create a Web page.
  • Add images and graphical formatting to HTML files.
  • Identify and use design and color principles for Web pages.

  • Define Extensible Markup Language (XML), and identify its features and appropriate use.
  • Identify essential website navigation issues, and ensure page/site accessibility.
  • Define and apply essential aspects of the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) standard.
  • Use Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) to create Web pages.
  • Identify technologies for enhancing the user's Web experience, including: programming languages, multimedia technologies.

  • Test and analyze website performance issues.

  • Identify the functions and components of servers commonly used on the Internet.
  • Identify common Internet security and availability issues, including: user-level and enterprise-level concerns.
  • Identify common performance issues affecting Internet clients, including: analysis, diagnosis.
  • Perform basic hardware and system maintenance for network-aware systems.
